Approach footwear needs an unusual blend of characteristics to make a really great and ultimately useful shoe. It needs to be good for walking up hill, approaching climbs on wet grass, good rubber for climbing on everything from limestone to granite, stiff enough to edge, flexible enough to smear, and a studded sole with traction for slippery descents.
